Purpose: Discussion of Sewer Rates
Grattan Township Lawn Care Bids <<<click here
FROM THE TOWNSHIP BOARD
The lagoon levels at Grattan Vergennes are still at critical levels due to the record breaking rains in the spring of 2013.
We anticipate major basement flooding due to the snow melt this spring. The sewer administrator is imploring all of our customers to evaluate the discharge on their sump pump systems, commonly found in the basement in an effort to reduce the amount of water discharged into the sewer system via your sump pumps.
Please make a determined effort to check the discharge of your sump pump to determine if it is indeed discharged into the sewer system, ideally prior to the spring thaw. If necessary the township will arrange to provide help with this effort if you care to contact Frank Force at the township; 616-691-8450 or firstname.lastname@example.org. M-Th, 9-4pm.
If we succeed in reducing inflow to the lagoons by this method we can significantly reduce any high water issues before this irrigation season and keep costs down
As always, please flush only natural products into your sewer. Recently several pumps have been pulled due to plugging by unnatural materials introduced into the sewer. Please avoid pouring grease down the drain as well. Let’s all work together to conserve our sewer funds to improve our sewer system.

Sewer Usage Fee Increase
As the end of the fiscal year comes around and a new budget is developed, the question arose again about a possible increase in the quarterly sewer usage charge.
The township board did in fact call for an increase in the 2014/2015 fiscal year.
The initial suggested increase was whittled down so the increase really only represents the increased cost of fuel, labor, utilities and all the other bothersome items that seem to go up each year.
For the 2014/2015 fiscal year the user rate for all sewer customers will go up to $165 per quarter. This is a $5 per quarter or $1.67 per month increase over last year's cost.
The Capital Improvement charge will remain the same for the upcoming fiscal year.
