ATTENTION SEWER CUSTOMERS
IRRIGATION SYSTEM UPGRADE AT GRATTAN VERGENNES-2011
AND COLLECTION SYSTEM UPGRADE SYSTEM WIDE-2011

As most of you know Grattan Township has been mandated by the MDEQ to upgrade the irrigation system at Grattan/Vergennes due to the poor condition of the current irrigation system that has been in place since the installation of the sewer system in 1978.

The irrigation system upgrade will cost $260,047 and will provide for clearing of the property, new under drains, and completely new irrigation equipment of the center pivot design, much like farmers use for agriculture.

The township has also earmarked $196,953 to upgrade the collection system; $46,780 of which will pay for mechanical improvements on the pump stations. The other $150,173 is for electrical panel upgrades to replace badly degraded panels that present a safety concern and also hinder efficient operation of the pump stations.

This total assessment of $457,000 will be evenly distributed among all of the sewer customers and will appear as a separate billing during the end of June quarterly billing cycle.

Both projects will start in the summer of this year and will be completed before the end of the year. Expect considerable construction activity in some of your neighborhoods.

Please call Frank Force, Township Supervisor, if there are any

The procedures presented here are the steps that are taken when our sewer system suffers an SSO; which means Sanitary Sewer Overflow. Awareness ofthese procedures will be helpful if you wish to find further information regarding any of these events that may occur in the Grattan sewer system.
For anyone that is concerned or interested in the two sanitary sewer overflows that occurred on Big Pine Island Lake in Dec. of 2010, please go to the Monthly Report for Dec. of 2010 below and find the SSO report, lab results from water testing (two more tests will be conducted in Jan), pictures of the mechanism causing the overflow and information regarding the SSO in the body of the report itself. If anyone has any questions regarding these SSO's or any other questions about the sewer, please contact Frank Force at 691-8450, M-Th, 9-4, or supervisor@grattantownship.org
The next Sewer Advisory meeting will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 18, 6:00 pm at the township hall. Everyone is welcome and the meeting will present an opportunity to ask questions about the SSO's or any other questions regarding the sewer.
